Russia and the West Have Swapped Spiritual and Cultural Roles

    [IMG]Iben Thranholm [IMG]
    Mon, Sep 7, 2015
The subject of this interview is a Danish journalist and theologian who hosted a series of five programmes, entitled "From Russia with Love" on Danish national public service radio, Radio24syv, with the sub-heading "An Unbiased Look at Putin's Russia.”

Inspired by Emperor Constantine, she believes Christianity in the West can be rejuvenated by looking to the East. Iben is aware of the sheer enormity of this task. “Such, alas, is the depth to which Western hatred for Christianity has sunk,” says the theologian, who does not hesitate to defend President Putin, on whom the Western media delights in heaping derision and scorn.

"The Pussy Riot case opened the door to Russia for me," she explains.

"I understood that Russia is a country that refuses to compromise on Christian values. Russia is not just a country or a nation, Russia is a spiritual concept, a state of mind. Criticism of President Putin was not the crime for which the activists were tried and convicted. Their crime was the invasion of the Christ-The-Saviour Cathedral, the holiest of places, and engaging in a blasphemous act in front of the iconostases.

Thranholm on a recent trip to Russia

In the West, freedom of speech is widely deployed for the purpose of desecrating religion, but Russia does not permit crossing the line into blasphemy. That really fascinated me, and so I travelled to Moscow to learn more and this eventually resulted in a series of radio programmes trying to help Danes move beyond the tedious and unhelpful caricature-like clichés and provide them with a nuanced view of Russia.”

What was your impression of Russia?

"I experienced a fantastic energy, a moral energy similar to America in the '50s with the old moral values. I met helpful, poetic and cultured people with a spirit of self-sacrifice I have not seen before. The atmosphere in Moscow is completely different from that of any capital in Europe, and unlike here in the West, I feel much more spiritually free in the East.

While the West is deriding and disowning Christianity and Europe revels in self-loathing, Russians are returning to Christianity in a modern and contemporary context. Bear in mind that Christianity was suppressed under Communism, which was atheistic. Russians are familiar with the bitter fruit of atheism and have no appetite for the bleak and barren wasteland it produced.

The interesting thing is, that in Russia, Christianity is associated with being modern and progressive. It is the spirit of the young, the hip, the wise and the wealthy, who express their Christianity as a completely natural and straightforward way of life. Christianity is simply fashionable, but not in the superficial Western pop manner. Christianity’s roots grow deep in the soil of Russian life, and they look with amazement at how we guard, or rather, disregard, our spiritual heritage.

Not only that: They discern in our obsession with political correctness, and the social liberal opinion policing of the general media and academia, a new manifestation of the terror of totalitarianism they counted themselves blessed to escape after 75 terrible years.

After the Cold War, East and West swapped roles spiritually, culturally and morally. Cultural Marxism now holds unrestrained sway in the West.

But Communism and Social Democracy are probably not the same?

“Let me put it a different way. During the rule of Communism, Russia found itself in the grip of a culture of death, but she is returning to life, in the sense of Christian culture with a strong awareness of the historical roots and continuity.”

The situation in the West is the complete opposite. We celebrate death and have surrendered to the satanic view of man in a self-righteous rage and rant against God. We can divorce with ease on-line. We prioritise work and career above family responsibilities especially raising children. We favour euthanasia, abortion on demand, homosexual rights and same-sex marriage while our cities are submerged in Islam and growing segregation.

Russia has chosen a completely different direction, and it is one of the reasons that many Russians perceive activists like Pussy Riot as latter-day Bolsheviks. They invade and desecrate the sanctity of the church, a holy place. The West celebrates this as progress and prosperity. Russians are reminded that the spirit of communism is still alive. It merely assumes new forms and takes up residence in the West, where liberals and progressives love and adore Pussy Riot.

Today, the spirit of communism shows itself in western worship of human rights, freedom of speech and the elite’s utopian notions of so-called open societies. We are headed for the very wasteland that the Russians were relieved to leave behind. Patriarch Kirill has warned the West: “Do not take the path we took. We tried it and it leads to destruction!”

Recently the Russian military held an exercise based on the scenario of an attack on northern Norway, Aaland, Gotland and Bornholm. Do we just turn the other cheek?

"Well, that's not the true way to look at it. The Russians hold such an exercise because of the geopolitical pressure that NATO creates by deploying hostile military forces along the Ukrainian border and in the old Warsaw Pact countries.

Russian foreign policy has long been demonized. Russia is compelled to respond to a situation it did not create, which is not the same as aggression. Why should Russia accept being cut off from access to the sea, from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok? Such a thing is unthinkable. With bald-faced hypocrisy, the West makes it look like Russia is our new enemy. The truth is exactly the opposite. The West is its own worst enemy.

Yes, it is quite a wonderful article and it really brings to life the TLIG messages about Russia.

Russia is sounding more and more like the new west. And I wonder if it will be a refuge for many christians, like Mark Mallett suggested in this article ?

Tlig has enabled me to enjoy spiritual enrichment from Orthodox, Anglican - And other protestant denominations
alike, without compromising doctrine. I enjoy all their sermons and music too- in a relaxed way all that is holy pure and commendable and encouraging... .
they have an abundance of riches..

I am tired of anti Russian twaddle courtesy of the propaganda machines of BBC ,Sky and we have Ireland's woeful -RTE (which stands for Really Terribly Embarrassing)
-I dont have a tv because I could not stomach paying a license fee to the Anti- Christ.

Economic disorder reigns in the west and its corrupt immoral financial system hurtles to ruin. Russia is going in the right direction spiritually and therefore economically REASON and FAITH go together hand in hand
UNFAITHFULNESS and TREASON go hand in hand...

I want to move to Russia...!

I discovered a website called Russian-faith.com founded by an American, David Curry, who now lives in Russia. He created a website to explain the incredible religious revival or renaissance of faith in the Russian nation, which he felt was not well understood in America.

I thought this would interest TLIG members - it sure interests me!

In this article, David says that his youtube channel was terminated without warning and without reason by YouTube - so perhaps we should read & share his website address quickly!

In this video, he explains why he created the website and the conversions happening in Russia.

Here is a wonderful new video which will give hope for all of us longing for Christian Unity especially with the Orthodox. Those who joined the Russian pilgrimage last year will be particularly interested in the video.

    Thanks for that video David.

Lately, I am amazed and horrified at the way in which the blessings and teachings of our Lord are being aped by the evil one. The Lord and Our Lady are speaking to us, showering the world with Graces of conversion, and teaching those willing to learn & listen through TLIG and other locutions, how to form a genuine unity. And in parallel, the evil one is leading others to form his own universal "unity", through the infamous "new world order" of global governance.

In the west, tt seems that the model of the USSR continues to be slowly rebuilt without the majority of people seeing what is going on.

I guess this is what Our Lady meant when she said that Russia would spread its errors - spread which was well underway by 1984, year of the consecration by John Paul II.

Why is it that man cannot simply listen to God and do what He asks when he asks? It sometimes just baffles my mind...

With the latest trade tariff tic-for-tac between Trump & EU, I think we are witnessing a shift in the world order and the global system of alliances is being shaken. European bankers have already criticized Trump's “America first” approach as creating a more fragmented global economy. Hours after Trump tweeted that "trade wars are good, and easy to win," European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the bloc is prepared to respond forcefully.... Juncker's threat heightened the prospects of a global free-for-all, as the World Trade Organization said the potential of escalating tensions "is real" and the International Monetary Fund warned the restrictions would likely damage the US and global economy.

Scriptures Are A Mirror That Reflect Me
    November 13, 2001 ....

    I had asked you to return to Me, but My seed 4 being dead did not hear Me, and ceaselessly kept offending Me; why, look, the sky and the heavens above tremble at My Visitation; 5 the mountains and the base of the earth today tremble with your iniquities; but who bothered his head when I warned you ten years ago about the retribution that lied ahead were you not to repent? who attempted to understand the way I move? and now, tell Me, who will report whether justice has been done? was anyone of you expecting the Towers to fall through your own sins and evil? and yet, ah, I had been warning you but your busy trading has filled your generation with violence and instead of leaning on the Father's bosom reclining on Him, you have deceased the very moment you preferred to lean on gold and silver; and yet, your table remains to this day empty;

I agree that Trump is throwing wrenches into these global movements. I see he is being compared to Cyrus by some observers (mostly protestant pastors).

Like others, I pray that God and Our Lady keep protecting him because things would take a sudden turn if he were to be killed or removed from office.

Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu and .... Most recently, the Sanhedrin emphasized the apparent connections between both leaders by issuing a silver medallion with the image of Trump superimposed on an image of Cyrus with an image of the Jewish Temple on the flip side of the coin.

    Read more at https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/...ent-biblical-proportions/#xjRLS5CvAHEzGd7k.99

Jewish leader Jonathan Cahn even said there was a connection when Trump was elected and he was an instrument being used by God, just like the Persian King Cyrus. I like the way Jonathan Cahn described the election and how he was similar to Cyrus because of his determination. When I find the youtube again, I'll post it as well.

Hi karnala ....excellent - I always enjoy listening to Jonathan Cahn...I love his unique insights and great knowledge of scripture

That is awesome... and yes andree the errors of Russia have been welcomed and embraced for some time in the west. The sad fact is youtube - has an agenda and seem to be onboard with "the self styled elites" bolshevist ideas.
Alternatives are springing up -and are needed.

Do any of you wear the miraculous medal?..If not please do you will always be thinking of the Blessed Mother and call her for help.

I grow impatient for triumph, what will it mean, what will it be like....?

It was wonderful hearing Jonathan Cahn (who lives in America) encouraging Protestants when Donald Trump was elected, that God has granted the United States a window of opportunity for a national revival (as religious liberties were being trampled).

Vassula shared that the strongest message is for the church, the call to unity in diversity, and that Jesus is not happy that we are not united, giving the example of the differences in the dates of Easter. I observed Lareto’s face as she digested this, Vassula continuing and completing her sentence with, “So long as this is not done, wars, catastrophes will take place. But, the Holy Spirit will call in such a way that the church will be united and then the Glory of God, the triumph will be seen”.

Talking about the dates of Easter - when I read about ....the united action of the churches to close the Church of the Holy Sepulchre has at least temporarily addressed the pressing tax and property issues. It reminded me of Orthodox belief that if the Holy Fire was never present, this would have significant meaning for the end times. Everyone must be apprehensive as to what will happen during Orthodox Easter now the Holy Sepulchre has reopened. “Israel is home to a flourishing Christian community and welcomes its Christian friends from all over the world,” stated Netanyahu’s office in announcing the suspension.

I have read this article about Russia and it has lifted my spirit. My interest in Russia had started in the early 50th when becoming friends with a Ukranian boy who joined our Catholic Scool in the Netherlands. He was part of one of the refugee families that had fled from the communist regime in Ukraine. The family at that time had one boy and a younger sister and they were members of the Russian Orthodox Church. They attended the Sunday and also weekly Masses at our Catholic Church.
I had high regard for the family as they were very humble and hard working. My new friend had these qualities I admired and never forgot these even in later life.
My friend took his younger sister, who was five at the time, on his German push bike to her kinder garden. Her name was Olga.
Within a short time of getting to know them, they shifted to Canada. We corresponded for a while until I myself immigrated to New Zealand. For some reason, we lost contact and for the next 50years, I was left wondering how I could find my friend again. This desire never left me through all those years. It was when I got a little computer wise that I started trying again with the result of finding their family name on Google with the first initials of his sister Olga. I also managed to get the phone number I dialled straight away and made contact with her being greeted with a hundred or so O.M.G's.She told me to contact her brother and within some twenty minutes I was talking to a long lost friend. True friendship never dies as these fifty years of waiting and hoping had all ben in God's plan.
Unfortunately, my friend was in bad health and could not talk to me for long. He passed away a few months later and had expressed to be very pleased to have met up again.
The True Life in God messages are such a great blessing for the World today and need to be taken seriously by all. Especially those referring to Russia as all that has been foretold is now happening in a big way. Russia so long having been under the Godless communist system is now rising above its hurts and deprivation of religious freedom,
is becoming a great example of Christian living and its values while the West is going downhill morally to the point of playing God. Its leaders have not understood the promise God has given us all in Scripture ;''If My People humble themselves and pray, I will heal their land''

Thank you, Jos, for this testimony. Your finding your old friend and his sister via the internet is quite a story and an encouragement to those, like me, who view the internet as a positive thing of which God is able to make good use. It has been, of course, an important tool in spreading the TLIG messages and I suspect it will be even more important in the future. Sadly, the devil is also able to use the same tools and it is not difficult to see his work on the medium.

Yes, when I go in search of positives for the future, I always look at Russia. Today, I think, Pope Francis will be meeting President Putin again in the Vatican. Although, apparently, there is no expectation of an invitation from Putin for Francis to visit Russia, who knows what the Lord might organize!

Here is another interesting news items for this thread.

First Church dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima to be constructed in St Petersburg.

I could not find an article about this in English, just the French article above so below is the results of online translation.

Our Lady of Fatima settles in St. Petersburg
    September 30, 2019
    Provenance: fsspx.news

About 40 bishops and ordinary Eastern Rite Churches united in Rome gathered at the Vatican from 12 to 14 September 2019. Received in audience by the Supreme Pontiff, the latter approved the project to build the first official sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima in St. Petersburg, in the heart of Russia.

The first sanctuary officially dedicated by the Catholic Church to the Virgin of Fatima will soon see the light of day in Russia, more than a century after the apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary in Portugal. The information has been confirmed from Siberia by the Apostolic Administrator of Novosibirsk, Bishop Joseph Werth.

Surprising as it may seem for a Catholic gaze, "the Orthodox confessions are not opposed to this project. Many Russians have great devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, who interceded for the conversion of Russia during the communist persecution, "Fr. Alejandro Burgos, a Spanish priest exercising his apostolate in St. Petersburg, told Gaudium Press.

To promote to the Orientals the devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, the Father

Burgos had an icon depicting the Virgin made with the mention: "it is in you that the unity is realized". May the Virgin of Fatima indeed hasten the return of the misguided to Catholic unity, in the same faith and the one Church founded on Peter ...

The future sanctuary to house the icon will be dedicated to the Byzantine Catholic rite. The cost of the project is estimated at 3 million euros, a large part of which will be financed by the Conference of Bishops of Spain, who have been particularly involved in this endeavor.

The Society of St. Pius X has a regular apostolate in Russia: a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima exists in St. Petersburg, while another, under the patronage of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, regularly opens its doors to the faithful. of Latin rite in the Russian capital.

I give you my testimony about Russia
On the 2 of January of 2018, 5 days before getting to hear, read and know about TLIG I sent a picture of an icone of saint Serafim of Sarov to a russian friend that lived in my neighborhood , because I like this saint a lot, I just read his life and it was his feast day and I wanted to share with her. She told me on the spot: it is incredible, I was just trying to buy a plane ticket to go to Russia and visit a friend who lives in st Serafim's town!
On the 7th of January a friend of mine who is a priest sent me the link about tlig and beth myriam , it was my birthday and I discovered with a lot of enthusism our Lord's messages to Vassula

My russian friend was at st Seraphim's town on february the 4th , day of st Veronique and she sent me beautiful pictures of the little church
On that very evening, I was watching my acrylic painting of christ Pantocrator, in my house, and I discovered a drop of oil and a cross that had appeared on the forehead of our Lord's picture...

If I can, I send you pictures of "my " Pantocrator

Putin Proposes to Enshrine God, Heterosexual Marriage in Constitution
Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted to parliament a number of constitutional changes, including amendments that mention God and stipulate that marriage is a union of a man and woman.

Putin in January unleashed a political storm by proposing an overhaul of the Constitution, the first changes to the basic law since 1993.

Also, it's very noteworthy to see that in Russia, the masses are not cancelled, but they are adopting strict protocols for communion and other sacraments. See list of measures here approved by His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and note the statement about the importance of maintaining the mass for the spiritual and bodily health of the faithful.

Here is another story that shows the inversion of things between Russia and the west. In Moscow, nightly Cross processions are occurring to fight the virus!
Coronavirus Prevention via Public Prayer! Moscow Monastery Introduces Nightly Cross Processions to Fight Covid-19

It's like it was 1000 years ago in Constantinople, during times of disaster, when clergy and believers went in processions around houses, streets, monasteries, and even entire settlements, calling on the Lord and saints to help. Moscow is keeping this ancient Church tradition alive today . . .

    Originally appeared at: RT
While ordinary folk have been told to wash their hands, self-isolate, and keep social distance to fight infection, Orthodox Christians in Moscow have opted for their own solution – nightly processions on the streets.

Led by an ancient icon of the Mother of God, the procession begins with monks splashing water on the walls of the monastery, before walking and reciting prayers.

As first reported by news service Interfax, monks from Moscow’s Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery have opted to circle their abode to battle coronavirus. The first procession, which occurred yesterday after the evening service, will become a nightly ritual, presumably until the virus is defeated. The abbot of the monastery, Igumen Peter Eremeev, explained the logic on his Instagram page.

“The tradition of religious processions in the days of the disaster was established in church tradition back in Byzantium. The clergy and believers went around houses, streets, monasteries, and even entire settlements, calling on the Lord and saints to help. Today we all need help from above, so the brethren of our monastery unanimously decided to increase prayer. The Lord will not leave anyone!” he wrote.

This isn’t the first action taken by a Russian Orthodox Church to fight Covid-19. On Tuesday, a Moscow archpriest noted that they were doubling the volume of communion wine as a means to kill the virus, and many other churches have taken to cleaning their icons more regularly.

There is a very interesting development in Italy at the moment: it has appealed to Russia for help in fighting covid-19,

The Italian PM called Putin to ask for his help and Putin agreed to send several cargo planes, which have apparently landed in Italy.

In one of those articles, it says that the cargo planes were forced to fly a longer route, over the Black Sea and the Balkans, since several EU countries between Rome and Moscow would not give flyover permission!

Now why do you suppose Italy is turning to Moscow instead of Europe or the US?
