    Filmmaker Michael Matheson Miller: The Way We Fight Poverty Actually Makes Things Worse
    His new documentary film "Poverty, Inc." is winning awards and changing minds across the spectrum.....

    [IMG]

    Zoe Romanowsky: In much of your work, you seek to bring innovative and effective solutions to real-world problems — poverty being the big one — and doing so in a way that’s rooted in the Catholic view of the human person and society. What did you want to accomplish with the film?

    Matthew Matheson Miller: One of the things we’ve tried to do is re-articulate and reframe the discussion about poverty. We tend to treat poor persons as objects — objects of our charity, objects of our pity, objects of our compassion — instead of treating them like subjects and protagonists of their own stories. And when I say “subjects,” I don’t mean of a king or queen, but in the sense of the grammatical, as another “I.” We did more than 200 interviews around the world for the film, and we let people tell their stories and share their experiences so the audience can better understand the “poverty industry.”

    This is a secular film, for general audiences, but for those who are aware of it, the whole driving force is really the philosophical anthropology of the Catholic Church, and specifically the philosophical anthropology of John Paul II.....

    Here's a recent story from Australia's homeless (and its winter here too):

    Homeless group gatecrashes Vinnies CEO Sleepout event in Whitmore Square

    Fri 17 Jun 2016

    An angry group of homeless people has gatecrashed the Vinnies CEO Sleepout event being held in Adelaide's CBD, accusing participants of not understanding their plight.

    The annual event, held Australia-wide, sees business executives sleep outside in a bid to raise money for homeless services and awareness of homeless people's situation.

    Marquees and fences were erected specifically for the event in Whitmore Square, which is usually frequented by homeless people.

    St Vincent de Paul chief executive officer David Wark told 891 ABC Adelaide he thought the marquees and fences may have offended the group of five or six people.

    "We didn't put the marquees or the fencing in an area where they might normally occupy," Mr Wark said.

    "I think it was just having marquees in Whitmore Square was something very different and took people by surprise."

    Mr Wark said the homeless people accused participants of not understanding what homelessness felt like.

    Poverty and homeless....Yet we live in a world of plenty. ...

    "Those who hold the power to create money — the Bankers — therefore literally control our lives, as Pope Pius XI rightly put it in his Encyclical letter Quadragesimo Anno, in 1931, adding that
    “the State has become a slave, bound over to the service of human passion and greed,” to the service of the money powers."

    "The control of money by private interests is the greatest swindle of all times, and it has brought about disastrous consequences, like economic depressions, wars, etc."

    John Paul II has mentioned several times the need for a change of the financial and economic systems: “A structural reform of the world financial system is, without doubt, one of the most urgent and necessary initiatives.”
    (Message to the United Nations, Sept. 26, 1985.)

    "...For you are among those I am sending for this great war you had seen in the vision I had given you in the beginning; the battle of My Great Day8 against the three foul spirits who ape My Holy Trinity, forming themselves into a triangle [IMG] 9 these three foul spirits taking a corner each are alias the dragon, the first and the second beast; the great dragon, the primeval serpent known as the devil or Satan, will continue, only for a very short time now, to lead the world astray; and the power and the authority he is giving to the beast, together with the second beast alias the false prophet, will be brought down and I shall triumph;

    this is why I had asked you that as soon as you were born, to fast10 .... I made your soul swear an oath before My Altar, to remain in the dark for three days and three nights;

    now then, tell this generation how I abhor their wisdom, and although they have become more like wild animals than saints who are to My likeness, I still burn with love for them; I am your God and you, generation, although so anxious to defile My Name, you are My offspring; the days are coming when one will say to the other: "how I envy these dead, how I wish I was one of them .... why was I among those who were like a brand snatched from the blaze?" today I am speaking in the heart of My Sanctuary: "the word that I announce is not for your condemnation but to restore your soul and save you;"

    and you, daughter, whom I have chosen, I will help you, this is a promise from the Holy One; I will put with you an angel who, when you run you will not grow weary, when you walk never tire, for he will carry you on his wings, and I, for My part, will renew your strength;

    courage, daughter; I bless you;

    When I first started working at the Christian/Community radio station they told me not to say on the telephone that its a Christian radio, as they're striving to be a 50/50 mix to get more community donations. They also support Hillsong and I've been watching some of their youtubes lately, because they're teaching me Production work.

    I've just been doing some extra reading about Hillsong and there seems to be a lot of triangles and darkness used in their so-called "worship". I was surprised to read this article, because a Toby Mac song - Speak Life - was the theme of our recent June Appeal to raise funds. Also, The Good Life, is another popular song we play on air (at the bottom of quote):

    karnala it sounds like you are well clued in on this. I have found TLIG has helped with this difficult side of the world today. Not sure how deep those groups are involved
    it can be niavete but I would not put past satan to inveigle his way anywhere. Where ever God is active satan is quick to set up shop nearby.

    Discerning the spirits, I dont claim this gift. I have though had some odd encounters with the occult and demonic. I regard satan with vigilance and as a bit pathetic, now his time is nearly over and so he is extra vicious.
    I wear a miraculous medal and a Holy Face medal.
    Guardian angels help and guess who - Padre Pio (he can easily box satans ears) will keep us safe and discern and bring to light any evil hidden or otherwise.

    There have always been secret societies, infiltrators etc

    2Peter2:1-2

    1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; 3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
    Just found this on TlIG messages;

    have you noticed any limitations? go on, say it ....

    Am I wrong if I say: on the "inner walls" of Your House, there, I find not much of a support ...

    no one will be able to strike you down not even the "inner walls", as you have called them, of My House, so long as I am with you and by your side;

    the "inner walls" would have closed over you, but the masons who toiled to build those "inner walls" have toiled in vain; your mere zeal for My House which devours you will topple them ..

    I have not asked you whether you had support on the "inner walls" of My House or not; I have asked you if you have noticed any limitations ...

    "No; not in the whole; Your Message is expanding,
    and I see Your Glory and Your Power;
    great are Your achievements, my God;
    You have let Your children see Your Glory;
    You rule over everything ... and You are expanding
    Your Holy Message of True Life in God ....2

    so do not fear; whosoever bows you down, I will raise you up again; I have raised you up to be My pupil; it is I, your Bridegroom, so come, enter into the joy of your Lord!

    listen carefully and write: to this day My Merciful Calls have not been given much attention, 1 neither have My warnings been regarded; My pupil, My Return is imminent, I have sent you out to proclaim My Words in this world, and to speak in My Holy Name but many still would not listen;

    Satan's hour is coming to an end for My triumph is near; this is why he holds so many captive, bound with apostasy; bound with falsehood;

    generation! generation, your apostasies have been many but greater than this one I have not seen and today this evil generation refuses to listen to My Merciful calls and continues to follow the dictates of their own hardened hearts; shrugging their shoulders, they say, My daughter: "we prefer to do as we please ..." and they settle for evil .... since they have abandoned the Fountain of Living Water they shall die in their apostasy..."

    Also, today's commentary is about knowing them by their fruits (which brings us back to working with the poor, etc):

    Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 7:15-20.

    Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.
    By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
    Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.
    A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
    Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
    So by their fruits you will know them."

    Commentary of the day :

    Blessed Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997), founder of the Missionary Sisters of Charity
    No Greater Love

    Bearing wonderful fruit

    If someone feels that God is asking him to become involved in reforming society, that is a matter between him and his God. We all have the duty to serve God where we feel called to do so. I feel called to serve individuals, to love each human being. I never think in terms of masses, of a group, but always according to persons. If I thought of the crowds, I would never undertake anything. It is the person who counts. I believe in face to face encounters.

    The fullness of our heart becomes visible in our actions: how I behave with this leper, how I behave with this dying person, how I behave with this homeless person. Sometimes, it is more difficult to work with down-and-outs than with the people who are dying in our hospices, for the latter are at peace, waiting to go to God soon. You can draw near to the sick person, to the leper, and be convinced that you are touching the body of Christ. But when it is a drunk person yelling, it is more difficult to think that you are face to face with Jesus hidden in him. How pure and loving must our hands be in order to show compassion for those beings!

    To see Jesus in the spiritually most deprived person requires a pure heart. The more disfigured the image of God is in a person, the greater must our faith and our veneration be in our search for the face of Jesus and in our ministry of love for him… Let us do so with a sense of profound gratitude and with piety. Our love and our joy in serving must be in proportion to the degree to which our task is repugnant.

    I just read at Zenit that Pope Francis has recorded a personal message asking youth to participate in the ecumenical event of Together2016 on the National Mall, Washington DC on July 16 .... joining 40 well-known speakers, authors and leaders for a day of unified prayer and worship.

    When I read the 'line up' of those performing - it includes Trip Lee & Hillsong United (who I posted about above).
